Winter Bucket List Ideas For The Family

Some fun ideas for those cold days and nights.

Visit a museum or an aquarium.

Check out a local museum or aquarium or take a drive to check out something brand new. Museums and aquariums are fun ways to spend an afternoon indoors. Some local libraries even have passes you can borrow! Ours lends out passes to many local museums, you just need to book ahead.

Check out your local library.

Many local libraries have free events for kids every month including story times, special guests and other fun activities.

Play in the snow.

This one is a no-brainer once the snow falls. Get those kids outside to run, build, and play in the snow. This exhausts my kids in the best way - they just love it. You might also try sledding, skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating - all the snowy things.

Have an indoor snowball fight.

If you are having a rainy winter or live where snow never falls, have an indoor snowball fight. Grab some fake snowballs and get to it. My kids love to do this every year.

Host a 'PJ and Pancakes' playdate.

A fun twist on a playdate! Have your kids invite a few friends or family members over. Everyone wears pajamas and you serve pancakes or waffles.

Have an indoor campout.

We did this a bunch during the pandemic, and it was a big hit. Put up a small tent in your living room (or just use sleeping bags) and 'campout' for the night. You can even make indoor s'mores!

Winter Bucket List Ideas for You

Some fun ideas for the adults - add to your calendar now!

Host a book swap.

What better way to spend a cold night than reading a great book? Invite some friends over, and ask them to bring a few books to swap. Everyone can go home with something new. A fun and inexpensive way to spend time with friends.

Try a new recipe.

I love to cook and bake on chilly weekends. I especially crave muffins, breads and soups. Make a big pot of soup and a batch of muffins and have leftovers (hopefully) all week. Challenge yourself to try something new!

Have a movie night.

Put on your coziest sweats, order your favorite take-out and watch your favorite movie. Self-care at it's finest in the winter. This is my most favorite way to spend a Friday night after a long week.

Go for a winter walk.

Don't let the cold weather keep you from getting out in nature. A bundled up walk with cold, crisp air can be energizing and good for the soul.

Try a new restaurant.

Maybe there's a place you've been wanting to check out, but didn't have the time during the busy fall/holiday season? Make a reservation now for a date night or girls night out.

Declutter your home.

There is something about January that just screams, 'declutter! organize! clean!' I find this to be a great way to start the new year. It might be a drawer or a closet or a room. Do one thing at a time, it feels so good!

Winter blues be gone!

That is my list of simple and fun winter bucket list ideas - for both you and your family. I hope you are inspired to try something new during these next few weeks and months.
