Five of the Best Self-Care Tips for Moms
Today I am sharing 5 of the best self-care tips for moms.
Being a mom is hard work - such hard work. Our days are filled with us taking care of everyone else, leaving us little time to take care of ourselves. And though it's easier said than done, it's so important for moms to fill their own cups.
When you feel rested, connected, and fulfilled, you are not only modeling the importance of taking care of yourself for your children, you are also able to show up as the best version of yourself for your family.
In the ten years since having kids I've definitely learned that taking care of myself has to be on my to-do list. Whether it's a solo walk outside, some quiet time away to read a book, or working on this blog - I've begun to make it more of a priority. One that has noticeable effects on my health, mood, and well-being as a mom.
Self-care looks different for everyone, because we all have different interests, priorities, and things that bring us joy. You can take these self-care tips and adapt them to what makes sense for you.
Here are five of the best self-care tips for moms.
The Best Self-Care Tips for Moms
#1: Think about what you need.
Moms are always thinking about what everyone else needs - it seems to come with the territory. Take some time to think about what YOU need. Do you need more rest? Do you want to be more connected to yourself or others? More healthy? More refreshed? Write it down and be specific. Then begin to think about where and when you can work it into your week or day.
#2: Put it on your calendar.
This might seem unnecessary, but for me, if it's on my calendar or to-do list it's much more likely to happen. So book that barre class or schedule a date with a friend - whatever it might be that you need and want to do. Put it on the calendar, and make it non-negotiable.
#3: Move your body.
As we know, self-care looks different for everybody. However, moving every day is one of the best things we can do for our minds and bodies. It is beneficial for both our physical and mental health. Find time as many times a week as you can to move your body in some way. It might be a walk outside while listening to a book or podcast (my favorite!), a fitness class, a quick workout at home, or a dance party in your bedroom. Just move and see how you feel.
#4: Learn something new.
This I've learned from personal experience. I was beginning to feel burned out from my day-to-day responsibilities. Between work, being a mom, and the myriad of things I needed to do every day - it was just exhausting. I needed something new.
I had always thought that I'd like to have a blog, but I didn't have the confidence to do it. I didn't know the tech side, or really anything about building a blog. After several years of thinking about it, I decided to just go for it. YouTube, Google and I became fast friends and I started to figure it out. Now, several months in, I can honestly say that the learning has brought so much joy and fulfillment, it's truly been amazing. So give something new a try. You never know where it will lead you or how it will make you feel.
#5: Nourish your body.
Part of self-care is taking care of yourself. When you nourish your body with the right foods, you will feel good, have more energy, sleep better - the list goes on. Take a look at what you eat each day. Can you add more fruits and veggies? Reduce sugar or processed foods? Focus on you and what feels good for your body. Try just one new healthy food or habit this week. *Check out this post for how to get started!*
