Five Things To Start Doing Today For Your Health
Today I am sharing the five things to start doing today for your health. These five things are the pillars of a healthy lifestyle.
As a mother, one of the best gifts I can give my kids is a healthy mom. The goal is not to strive for perfection, but to think about small habit changes that can help you to be your healthiest self. As the warm weather approaches, it feels like the perfect time to reset and commit to some new healthy habits.
Here are the five things to start doing today for your health.

Hydration & Movement
ONE: Wake up and drink up. Staying hydrated is important for all of our body systems to run smoothly, for energy levels, and for our general health. Starting the morning with water is a great way to rehydrate after a night of sleep and get you ready for the day ahead. I work out first thing, so I start with a bottle of water as I workout. After my workout, I make a green drink with AG1 (LOVE this - and makes me feel great). I feel good knowing I've packed in lots of water early in the day.
Need some motivation? Get yourself a water bottle that you love and give yourself a water goal for the day. If the Stanley mug craze has taught us anything, it has taught us that drinking water out of a cute mug/cup/bottle WILL make us drink more water!
TWO: Move your body. This could be anything that feels good for you and that you can fit in your schedule. I aim to spend 20-30 minutes, a few mornings a week, squeezing in a workout before my kids are up and my day is in full-swing. For others this might look like a quick ten minute stretch, a walk during lunch, or a trip to the gym. Finding time for movement that feels good to you is so important for overall health.
Nutrition & Sleep Habits
THREE: Pack in the nutrition. If you value a healthy lifestyle, or are working toward a healthier lifestyle, nutrition is one of the most important things to consider. It's important that your meals and snacks fuel you with a combination of fiber, fat and protein. An easy way to do this with little to no planning, is a simple smoothie. With a handful of greens, some berries, chia or flaxseed, nut butter and a good quality protein powder you can whip a balanced meal or snack that packs a ton of nutrition. If you are just starting out changing your eating habits, this is a great place to start. Check out my go-to smoothie recipe here, and my favorite clean protein powder here.
FOUR: Prioritize sleep. I'm not very good at this. In fact, I'm writing this at ten o'clock at night when I should be winding down. But we've heard it before and it's proven to be true - better sleep means a healthier you. So even though there never seems to be enough hours in a day, choose a bedtime goal and make it happen as often as you can. Everything will still be there in the morning. And if you have young children and they tend to wake you during the night - I am right there with you. I try to remind myself that it will get better (hopefully!). Check out these tips for creating a healthy nighttime routine.
Making Time for Joy
FIVE: Do something that makes you happy. Nutrition, movement, hydration, sleep - these are all essential to a healthy lifestyle. But a little joy in our everyday lives can also go a long way in making us feel good and reducing our daily stressors. It can be the smallest thing - a walk outside, picking up your favorite latte on the way to work, a phone call with a friend, a good book. Find a few minutes every day for YOU.
Those are five things you can start doing today for your health that can make a huge impact. Give one thing a try today, and see how you feel.
