Why make chocolate covered pretzels at home?
You can buy chocolate covered pretzels in many stores during the holidays - but there are lots of great reasons to make them at home.
#1: They are much cheaper to make at home.
You will save so much money and will still get beautifully decorated and delicious pretzels to enjoy and give as gifts.
#2: You can customize however you'd like.
You can choose the flavors, toppings and pretzel size! Depending on the holiday you are celebrating, you can customize the colors and the wrapping.
#3: You can use pretzels that meet specific dietary needs.
Need a gluten free pretzel, no problem. Make them at home so your loved ones with dietary restrictions can enjoy them too.
#4: It's fun and easy.
You don't need to know how to cook or bake to whip up these chocolate goodies. And they are perfect to make with kids because they only have three ingredients and they are a no-bake treat.
What do you need to make this easy holiday treat?
Pretzels. We are using gluten free pretzels here, but you can use any kind. I like Snyder's gluten free pretzel rods. For these I also used Good Health Sea Salt gluten free pretzels. You can also use large or small twits or small pretzel sticks.
Chocolate. I used chocolate chips with a bit of coconut oil mixed in, but you can use any type of melting chocolate. I also like to use some white chocolate melting chips.
Toppings. Holiday sprinkles, mini M&Ms, chopped nuts, crushed peppermint, mini chocolate chips.
How do you make these chocolate covered pretzels?
Step 1: Line a rimmed baking sheet with wax paper.
Step 2: Melt your chocolate. I use 1c chocolate chips, melted with 1 tbsp. coconut oil. The coconut oil helps to keep the chocolate shiny, and helps to keep it firm. You can melt the chocolate in the microwave, in 30-45 second intervals, or in a double boiler. I used 1c chocolate and 1c white chocolate chips.
Step 3: Dip pretzels in chocolate and place on baking sheet.
Step 4: Sprinkle on toppings.
Step 5: Refrigerate until firm.
I like to keep these in the fridge to keep chocolate firm, but they can also be kept at room temperature.
How do I wrap these pretzels for gift-giving?
Wrap them in a clear cellophane bag with a festive ribbon and you have a sweet gift for family, friends neighbors or co-workers.
I've also packaged them in these small bakery boxes and wrapped the boxes in a festive ribbon.
These chocolate dipped pretzels are such an easy holiday treat to make with your kids. They are perfect for gifting or enjoying at home.
Give them a try and let me know what you think!
