Creating a memorable 4th of July celebration with kids is a great way to make memories and start new traditions. Whether you're planning a backyard barbecue, a trip to see a fireworks display, or just spending time at home, there are countless 4th of July activities to do with your kids.
I love any reason to celebrate. Whether it's a holiday or a birthday, or just an everyday moment - I love making them just a tiny bit more special.
Small celebrations and traditions sometimes create the best memories. It doesn't have to be elaborate or Pinterest-worthy to be memorable. I've found that my kids remember some of the simplest celebrations, and that they look forward to them every year.
Let's dive in to five ways to have a memorable fourth of July with kids.

Try one of these ideas for some 4th of July fun.
Have an outdoor movie night.
I love the idea of setting up some blankets and pillows in the yard, popping some popcorn and watching a movie. This would be such a fun tradition to start.
Have a backyard campout.
This idea is on our summer bucket list for this year! Set up a tent, pull out the sleeping bags and flashlights, and sleep under the stars. Bonus points if you include s'mores.
Try a new recipe together.
Celebrations often involve food, and maybe this year you make a special meal or dessert for the holiday. Maybe it's an easy flag cake like this one. Or maybe it's just a good old fashioned barbecue in your backyard. You could also try homemade ice cream or popsicles - check out this post for some ideas.
Take a trip someplace new.
Create a new tradition by visiting someplace new. It could be for a picnic, a walk or hike, or even some sightseeing. Visiting someplace new is a great opportunity to combine fun with learning for kids.
Go see a fireworks display.
The quintessential 4th of July activity - there is nothing like sitting under the stars and watching some festive fireworks with your kids. For my kids, just staying up late is a treat they love.
