A Simple Weekly Reset Routine for Moms

A Simple Weekly Reset Routine for Moms. Woman sitting on a couch writing in a notebook.

Today I am sharing a simple weekly reset routine for moms.

If your weeks tend to feel chaotic before they even begin, you’re not alone! Between school schedules, meals, activities, and everything in between, it’s easy to feel like you’re always playing catch-up.

With three kids under 12 at home, I feel the same way. I feel like the minute I wake up on Sunday morning, my head is spinning with the to-dos for the week ahead.

The good news? A simple weekly reset routine can completely change how your week feels—without adding more to your plate. By putting some simple systems in place on a Sunday, you can start your week feeling calm and organized.

Let’s walk through exactly how to do it.

Weekly Reset Routines: Your Questions Answered

What is a weekly reset routine?

A weekly reset routine is a set of simple habits you do once a week (usually on Sunday) to prepare your home, schedule, and mindset for the week ahead.

When should you do a weekly reset?

Most moms prefer Sunday, but the best day is whatever works for your family. The key is consistency—not perfection.

How long should a weekly reset take?

A realistic weekly reset routine takes about 1–2 hours. You can also break it into smaller chunks throughout the day (my preference).

What should be included in a weekly reset?

A simple routine could include:

  • Meal planning
  • Light cleaning
  • Laundry
  • Scheduling
  • Self-care

Why is a weekly reset helpful for moms?

A weekly reset helps reduce stress, saves time during the week, and creates a calmer home environment—something every busy mom needs.

My Simple Weekly Reset Routine

1. Do a quick home reset (30 min or less).

This is not deep cleaning—just a quick refresh.

Focus on:

  • Clearing kitchen counters.
  • Running the dishwasher.
  • Wiping down surfaces.
  • Tidying main living areas.

Set a timer and keep it simple. This alone can make your home feel so much calmer.

2. Plan your meals for the week.

Meal planning is one of the biggest time-savers you can build into your routine. This is a non-negotiable for me!

Keep it easy:

  • Choose 3–5 simple dinners.
  • Plan for leftovers.
  • Write a quick grocery list.

If you’re in a busy season, repeat meals you know your family already loves. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel every week.

3. Prep what you can ahead of time.

A little meal prep goes a long way.

Ideas:

  • Wash and chop produce.
  • Cook a protein (like chicken or ground turkey).
  • Prep snacks for kids.
  • Make a breakfast option (like overnight oats or egg muffins).

This step makes weekday meals feel so much easier.

4. Do a laundry reset.

Instead of letting laundry pile up, use your weekly reset to get back to zero (or close to it).

Try:

  • Washing 1–2 loads.
  • Folding and putting everything away the same day.
  • Tidying up loose shoes and coats.

It’s a small habit that makes a big difference during the week.

5. Check your calendar and plan the week.

Take 10–15 minutes to look ahead.

Ask yourself:

  • What appointments or activities do we have?
  • What nights will be busiest?
  • Do I need to prep anything in advance?

This helps you avoid last-minute stress and feel more in control of your schedule.

6. Create a simple game-plan for the week.

Write down:

  • Your top 3 priorities.
  • Any must-do tasks.
  • One thing just for you.

Keeping it simple makes it more likely you’ll actually follow through.

7. A little reset for you.

This part matters just as much.

Your weekly reset doesn’t have to be all productivity. Take a few minutes to do something that helps you feel like yourself again:

  • A quiet cup of coffee.
  • A walk outside.
  • A shower without rushing.
  • Reading a few pages of a book.

You deserve to start the week feeling cared for, too.

A Gentle Reminder

Your weekly reset routine doesn’t have to be perfect to be effective.

Some weeks you’ll do all the steps. Other weeks, you might only manage one or two—and that’s okay. Even a small reset can make your week feel lighter.

Start simple, stay consistent, and adjust as needed for your season of life.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or constantly behind, this simple weekly reset routine can help you start your week feeling calm, organized, and ready for whatever comes your way.
